We give the owners of small businesses training in web design.
With a web site content is king. People are looking for clear comprehensive and readily accessible information. Advanced features like animated menu's and embedded video do help a web site, but they aren't critical. We aim to give training in web design to people with a small business so that they can set up their own web site.
You can do it. The basics of setting up a web site are fairly simple. Anyone with an internet connection, a computer running Windows XP or later and who is reasonably proficient at using a computer can set up a web site.
Obviously the first question! We charge £350 for the training and everything you need to create your own simple website that you can update yourself whenever you wish.
Setting up a website is not for everybody. Many of our web site design customers come to us because they don't understand computers, don't like working with computers or feel that setting up a web site is not for them.
If you are quite happy working on a P.C., can use a word processor and download your digital photographs to your PC then you can set up a web site. It's really not that hard
You will need to have
You will need to write about 300 words of copy about your business in advance and have saved on your computer any pictures and images you want to use on your site. All of this will become the contents of your website
Before we come to your premises we will set you up with a web hosting arrangement and register a domain name of your choice, this is where your web site will live
Next on the morning of the first day we will start by setting up your computer and getting to know your PC. This will include checking your PC to ensure the software will work, installing your inclusive copy of CoffeeCup 2007 HTML editor and checking out your internet connection
Then the work starts. You will be doing all the typing and I will be guiding you in the right direction. You will get details of how to set up a page and various features of a page. I'll show you how to include lists, tables of information, paragraphs and headings. I'll show you how to format images so that they can be included in a website and how to put them on the page. Links are a crucial part of a website and you will get plenty of information about how to set up links to other pages on your site and how to link to other web sites.
This is usually enough for one day. Day 2 will involve styling your site. This is a very complex area so we can only really give you a starter. We will however show you how to use various built in templates to amend the look and feel of your site, to change fonts colour schemes and the positioning of certain elements on your site.
We will finish by putting your finished creation live on the Internet, and telling the search engines where it is and how it fits together.
Here are two examples of web design content that you will be able to do by the end.
It's over to you. By the end of the course you will be able to set up, update and add to your website to your heart's desire. We will leave you with a series of printed notes to help remind you how things work. If things go wrong you can telephone us and we can help you to sort things out
